The engineering and environmental consultancy, RECICLAUTO, has designed a new prototype capable of removing layers of paint with high thickness.
The machine allows that, once the process is done, all impurities and traces of abrasive material is aspirated and separated. To do this, the prototype has two tanks one of them consisting of a vacuum system and the other where the abrasives are located. This design also has a contact time of 10 seconds from leaving the abrasive tank until it reaches the surface to be treated.
Some paint coatings such as PCBs or TBTs can be toxic. Although these compounds are banned by the environmental problem posed, many old ships still have them under newer paint.
The project Recyship performs these actions in designated areas where torch cuts are going to be made. This will prevent the inhalations of smokes contaminated with these chemicals when the operator executes the action of flame cutting or torch welding.
